We began this session with a story (from the website www.patheos.com) about a Christian woman visiting a synagogue on Yom Kippur and the conversation she encountered with the man sitting next to her on his relationship with being Jewish vs. religious. She explored her own troubled relationship with the church of her childhood. She concluded that she could look at that church and Christianity as a whole as part of her heritage and birthright, as the bedrock of her transformation, rather than something to "overcome."
Our ensuing discussion evolved around the need to remain an individual vs. the need to be part of something greater and bigger than oneself. We talked about identifying our selves as Christians vs. one brand of Christianity, and considered that Christianity should infer a way of "living" rather than a way of "believing."

Next Sunday, in my absence, Professor Tony Hatch will lead the group. Please feel free to bring any articles or contemporary issues as it relates to our understanding of being Christian today.
